Overall educational project objective

The main goal of the course is to train experts with a scientific background and an interest in food and/or feed safety risk assessment in order to expand their theoretical knowledge and practical skills on principles and methods of risk assessment. By using case-studies the training will help to upscale experts on the principles and methods of risk assessment in food and feed safety, to enable them to undertake, or to understand risk assessments, and to serve as members of various scientific committees and bodies at (inter-) national level. The training courses are expected also to indirectly contribute to the harmonisation of risk assessment approaches as well as to building trust amongst Member States’ authorities in each others’ risk assessments. The activity will be addressed to scientists from national authorities public institutions involved in food safety risk assessment and focussed on the following fields:

  • Microbiological risk assessment;
  • Chemical risk assessment in food;
  • Pest risk assessment;
  • Risk assessment in nutrition;
  • Risk assessment in Genetically Modified Organisms and other biotechnologies;
  • Risk assessment applied to animal welfare;
  • Risk assessment for animal health;
  • Environmental Risk Assessment;

The target audience for such a training programme will include experts involved in food safety risk assessment in the Member States as well as Candidate Countries and EEA/EFTA ((Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein) in order to keep them up-to-date with all relevant aspects of EU legislation, and thereby facilitate a more uniform and harmonised practice for risk assessment.
