Organisation of training courses on the prevention, control and eradication of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies

 

The training will focus on the different risk reducing measures to combat and eradicate BSE and in particular the implementation and proper control of those measures. Experiences and difficulties encountered at field level will be included in the programme. The aim is to further harmonise the approaches of the Member States to allow a comparison of the situation in the different Member States. In addition the training will increase the efficacy of the competent authority to verify compliance with the legal requirements in this field.
The detailed overall programme reflects the different topics as mentioned below which surely will be addressed during the workshops:

-        EU provisions on the prevention, control and eradication of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies including risk material removal, feed ban, monitoring and surveillance, placing on the market and imports;
-         EU reporting system on the surveillance and monitoring programmes;
-         Practical application of the EU provisions related to the control of the feed ban (sampling, targeting and examination) with the involvement of the competent veterinary authorities of the Member States and the Community Reference Laboratory for the detection of animal proteins in feed;
-         Practical application of the EU provisions related to the control of removal of Specified Risk Material;
-         Practical application of the EU provisions related to the control of removal of Specified Risk Material;

-        Integrating risk assessment, epidemiology and economics to support decision making in food safety.

-   TSE monitoring and eradication measures in small ruminants and breeding programmes in sheep.
