Workshop 1. Evaluation and registration of plant protection products  (4-days)

This workshop will build upon training provided to ‘all’ Member States and Candidate Countries in 2009 and training provided in earlier workshops to ‘new’ Member States and Candidate Countries in 2009 (Vilnius) and 2007 (Bratislava). The aim of the workshop is two-fold, firstly it is to provide an update on post-Annex I inclusion issues under Directive 91/414/EEC with particular emphasis on the latest developments surrounding the re-registration process, confirmatory data, peer review of ‘Green’ inclusions, the re-submission programme and the AIR project. Secondly it is to consider current processes in relation to meeting the legislative requirements of Regulation 1107/2009 and will cover topics such as zonal authorizations, mutual recognition, active substance renewal and managing the transition (what happens on 14 June 2011?). The workshop will comprise of formal presentations, group discussions and practical workshop sessions.

Workshop 2.  Control on use and marketing of plant protection products  (3-days)

 The goal of the workshop will be to ensure that all participants are:

·           have a through understanding of the future EU legislative framework that is being developed. In particular, requirements and obligations flowing from the EU Thematic Strategy. This will involve consideration of the implications and timelines for future monitoring and control mechanisms;
·           informed of current control systems operating in a range of established Member States and ‘new’ Member States. Examples drawn from these systems will be used as case studies and critically considered by participants to identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of those systems;
